Dublin launch of Against the Odds
A large crowd assembled in the cool venue of the Light House Cinema, Smithfield, for the Dublin launch of Andy McGovern’s Against the Odds. The man himself was fresh from an interview with Matt Cooper on Newstalk and was featured in the Irish Times Health Supplement that same day. Jonathan Healy of Newstalk was MC for the night and kept the proceedings flowing nicely. Speakers included Professor Orla Hardiman, neurologist and Ireland’s leading MND researcher, Marie Reavey of IMNDA, Andrew O’Farrell, the author’s bosom buddy, on behalf of CASA and sports broadcaster and ‘memory man’, Jimmy Magee, who lost his own son Paul to MND. Members of Andy’s family, including his brother Jack, celebrated with him, and a welcome guest was James McGovern, who accompanied Andy to London in the 1950s (read all the great London stories in Against the Odds) and was later a successful publican in Dublin without ever touching a drop himself. The Irish Times carried a short piece on the book the following day, thanks to reporter Pamela Duncan. Click here to read the article.
