Twelve-year-old Molly Parmeter, a gifted artist and performer, with a passion for style, created the concept of Molly’s Style Icons to express her interest in fashion and design and as a way of contributing to Chic and Cheerful, a charity boutique in Carlow that supports children in Kenya and Ethiopia. Molly wrote to Irish celebrities (only those she considered fashion icons): ‘I would be so grateful if you could take the time to drop me a quick line to tell me what you think is the most stylish item you have in your wardrobe. I will attempt to illustrate it very nicely…’ Among the many who obliged were Irish Times fashion editor Deirdre McQuillan (cashmere coat by Lainey Keogh); broadcaster Brendan Courtney (vintage tweed suit); Shelly Corkery, Fashion Director, Brown Thomas, Dublin (gold Louboutains); boxer Kenny Egan, (denim jacket); meteorologist Jean Byrne (little black dress); cookery writer Rachel Allen (fitted black jacket); and restaurateur Dylan McGrath (silver suit). Molly was so delighted by the people who took time to respond to her invitation and what their favourite clothes revealed about them that she determined that Molly’s Style Icons should be published in book form.

Molly’s Style Icons includes the letters from the style icons and Molly’s lovely illustrations of their favourite item of clothing or footwear. It is the work of a gifted and innovative young person.

All royalties from the sale of Molly’s Style Icons will go to Chic and Cheerful Charity Boutique, Carlow.
